Change to International Shipping Regulations for Lithium Batteries

Added 08.04.16

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has issued new regulations on the international shipping of lithium batteries as lithium batteries are now classed as "Dangerous Goods". This came into effect on the 1st of April 2016.

The main changes are as follows:

  • Lithium batteries are prohibited from being shipped in bulk on passenger flights, which is classed as 3 or more (the change does not interact with batteries shipped as the standard single battery as part of a new radio).
  • Batteries can now only be charged to a maximum 30% when being transported which may impact storage times.
